Hoffmann Learning Center
The Hoffmann Learning Center is part of the Saint Peter Public Schools, #508.
The Hoffmann Learning Center's Mission is to inspire a passion for learning that encourages and enables all individuals to reach their highest potential.
District 508 employs three full-time and Special Education Teachers who serve as Case Managers in the areas of emotional/behavioral disorders and mild/moderate mental impairments. Four Teaching Assistants are employed to help teachers provide the individualized instruction and behavior management that some students need. Students at the Hoffmann Learning Center are able to fulfill requirements established by the Minnesota State Department of Education. Support services are provided by a Speech/Language Clinician and an Adaptive Physical Education Teacher. The Hoffmann Learning Center also provides the services of a Licensed School Psychologist. The services of a Licensed Social Worker are available through St. Peter High School. A half-time lead teacher is employed to assist in planning and implementing the students’ individual education goals, coordinating and supporting mainstream attendance, and in planning for the students’ transitions back to home schools and communities.
Hoffmann Center students who attend the Learning Center are assigned a Case Manager who is responsible for all due process procedures related to education assessment and individual education planning. The Case Manager is part of the student’s multidisciplinary team which includes the student, student’s family, the Hoffmann Center therapist, county workers, and other appropriate personnel. Decisions regarding the student’s education services and residential services, including the IEP and the treatment plan, are made by the multidisciplinary team.
As part of the Saint Peter Public Schools, the Hoffmann Learning Center has 175 student contact days and 10 staff days. Most students attend a full day of school, but the integrated program plan allows for reduced day of homebound services for students whose needs are more therapeutic than educational.
The continuum of services, designed to be responsive to the behavioral and emotional needs of the student, is as follows:
Students are unable to participate in school due to behavior or are unwilling to attend school. A certified teacher provides on hour per day of instruction on the unit.
Partial day at Hoffmann Learning Center
Student attends a partial day at Hoffmann Learning Center, but does not attend classes at St. Peter Hight School. Student may attend physical education class.
Full day at Hoffmann Learning Center
Student attends classes all day at Hoffmann Learning Center, including physical education. Student does not attend classes at St. Peter High School.
